For class this week, we watched a watched a film called “Most Likely to Succeed”. It highlighted re-imagining education and pedagogies within institutions. The film also touched on newer schools such as High-Tech High that re-defines the approach to teaching and learning as whole domains. Aspects included a more learn-as-you-please school structure, teachers operating off of annual contracts to maintain accountability and teaching standards. These were some of the takeaways my group and I had come up with regards to the documentary.
- Humans are human’s greatest enemy when it comes to Artificial Intelligence (AI). The capacity AI has, to further develop through a self-sufficient system of learning and improving beyond human conception is an intimidating thought. One critical element missing from AI becoming, arguably, impossible to overcome with human power.
- The freedom associated with schools, such as high-tech high, “ends” with pursuing further education. We discussed that, the concept of High-Tech High could reach its maximum potential if there was a post-secondary version, similar to a trades school. We admire the concept of the school; however, once students graduate, they are only presented with options for post-secondary that predominantly follow the same educational structures.
- The absence of a rigid curriculum, school structure, and teaching guidelines (1-year contracts). In the documentary, it talks about High-Tech High allowing teachers to time their classes for as long as they choose. It was also up to their discretion on how they developed learning goals and teaching methods.

One portion of the documentary that piqued my interest focused on the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) by designing a robotic contestant for Jeopardy! The AI bot highlighted the efficiency and accuracy that AI possesses to emulate across multiple mediums. This robotic contestant that appeared on television 6-7 years ago, has matured into a more minimized version called ChatGPT, which is what we explored in class today. We explored online Artificial Intelligence (AI) generators, such as ChatGPT and resource sites such as Open Education Resources (OER). Through exploring these resources, ChatGPT stuck out to me, similar to my classmates. ChatGPT is a free online AI platform that generates written pieces based on a questions or prompts you ask it to respond to. Upon the initial visit to the site, I was very excited because the system is efficient and can produce exactly what you need. Although it is fairly new, I’m acquainted with the website and have used it for fun to see what types of samples the site can generate.
To conclude this post, have a look at this picture I found on Unsplash! It’s a website that provides free images based on anything you’re searching for. The best part, no watermarks! http://unsplash.com Enjoy 🙂
